On the Road While sitting in a car, bus, or taxi for a long period of time, you’re bound to get uncomfortable and restless. Although road trips and vacations are fun, with multiple people in a confined space there is no possible way to fulfill everyone’s needs. Keep these necessities in mind when preparing for your next road trip.- Take stretching breaks to not only use the restroom, but to improve the circulation throughout your body.
- Prepare for changes in temperature by packing a portable fan and a blanket – that way no one’s fighting about the A/C.
- Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to easily adjust your position.
- Bring a pillow to support your lower back so that your posture stays intact.
- Pack healthy snacks to fight hunger pangs and prevent the sluggish feeling you’d get from junk food.
- Bring a travel pillow to make your sleeping position more enjoyable.
- Wear light, stretchy clothes.
- Pack headphones to watch a movie or listen to music – just make sure not to stare at that bright screen too long!
- Have healthy snacks on hand since there are no stops – you’ll save by not spending money on train food.
- Don’t forget to bring a jacket and/or blanket in case you get cold.

- Drink plenty of fluids to reduce dehydration from the change in humidity and altitude.
- Avoid wearing tight clothing to minimize swelling due to reduced oxygen.
- Chew on gum, swallow, or yawn to help “pop” your ears during elevation changes.
- Bring hand sanitizers to avoid germs and the risk of getting sick due to close confinement with someone who is ill.
- Invest in a travel pillow that will keep you in an upright, comfortable posture while you sleep.
- To avoid jet lag, set your clock to the new time in advance to help your body adjust as quickly as possible.
- Thankfully, cruises provide plenty of entertainment and activities – make sure to reap the full benefits by staying active and walking around.
- Avoid eating too many junk foods that may upset your stomach or make you feel sluggish – although it can be tempting with all the meals included.
- Always pack motion sickness medicine such as Dramamine, just in case!
- Being on a boat 24/7 in close quarters can be noisy – pack ear plugs to give yourself the necessary lights out and energy you’ll need for the next day.
- Prepare for any type of weather with both jackets and sunscreen.
